COURSE OBJECTIVE
On successfully completing the course, delegates will be able to: Understand the ISO 14001 standard; Understand key environmental issues; Plan an audit against a set of audit criteria; Successfully execute an environmental management systems audit; Identify strengths and weaknesses of an EMS audit; Create clear, concise and relevant audit reports; Communicate your report to relevant personnel and management. The course uses a mixture of taught sessions, discussions and practical exercises to achieve its aims. The practical exercises are based upon a fictional company. However, the procedures, work instructions and data are typical and could relate to many different enterprises equally. The practical exercises have been carefully designed to focus upon issues that commonly arise during EMS audits.

COURSE CONTENTS
What are internal environmental audits for?; Environmental Management Systems overview; What to look for in Policy and Planning; Audit techniques; What to look for in Implementation and Operation; What to look for in Checking and Corrective Action; Report writing workshop; Practical exercises and feedback. There is no examination for this course. However, delegates will be assessed on the basis of their progress throughout the exercises, and a certificate of competence will be issued to delegates deemed to have achieved a satisfactory standard.
SUGGESTED PRE-REQUISITES
Familiarity with the structure and requirements of ISO 14001:1996 would be beneficial. An understanding of report writing is desirable. Though not essential, attendance at an Introduction to Quality Assurance course would be useful.
COURSE ACCOMODATIONS
This is a two-day course, starting each day at 8.30 and finishing at 17.00 with a daily one-hour lunch break. Course registration on the first day commences at 8.00. For those who require accommodation, Bureau Veritas has negotiated corporate rates for most training venues associated with a hotel.
