On successfully completing the course, students will be have: an appreciation of the importance of controlling Health and Safety in all types of business; a knowledge of Health and Safety management systems including the requirements of BS8800, OHSAS 18001  & SafetyCertÒ; a knowledge of documented management systems to control Health and Safety; a knowledge of risk assessment for Health and Safety; a knowledge of auditing principles; a detailed understanding of the principal requirements for auditing H&S Management systems. The course uses a mixture of taught sessions, interactive group discussions, exercises and continuous assessment to achieve its aims. The practical exercises are based upon a fictional company. However, the procedures, work instructions and data are typical and could relate to many different enterprises equally. The practical exercises have been carefully designed to focus upon issues that commonly arise during Health and Safety audits.

The course is intended for all those who wish to undertake internal audits of occupational health and safety management systems.  It is also useful for those interested in implementation of OH&SMS to SafetyCertÒ or OHSAS 18001.

Introduction to Occupational Health & safety Management Systems; Similarities with ISO14001 & ISO 9000; H & S Management Issues including operational control; H & S Audit Skills; Practical exercises and feedback. Appraisal of delegates’ knowledge and performance will be made through continuous assessment. A certificate of attendance will be issued to delegates deemed to have achieved a satisfactory standard.

Prior knowledge of OH&S issues would be beneficial.
